Privacy Policy

Introduction
Yosemite High Country Map ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our iOS application.
Information We Collect
Yosemite High Country Map is designed to work fully offline and with privacy in mind. We collect minimal information:
- Location Data: The app may request access to your device location to display your position and elevation on the map and to record GPS tracks when you choose to do so. During active track recording, the app may access your location in the background. Location data is processed locally on your device and is never transmitted to our servers.
- User-Created Content: Placemarks, GPS tracks, and imported GPX data you create or add are stored locally on your device. This data is not transmitted to our servers. Placemarks may optionally sync through your personal iCloud account (see below); GPS tracks stay on-device unless you explicitly export them.
- Map Data Downloads: The basemap is bundled with the app and requires no network access. If you download the optional high-detail map pack, the request is made to our content delivery service, which may record standard server logs (IP address, timestamp, file requested) for debugging and reliability purposes.
The app contains no user accounts, no advertising, and no analytics or tracking of any kind.
How We Use Your Information
- Location data is used solely to show your position on the map and record your tracks, on your device
- Server logs from map-pack downloads are used only to maintain the reliability of the download service
- We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties
- We do not use your information for advertising or marketing purposes
Data Storage and Security
- All user-created content (placemarks, GPS tracks, imported GPX) is stored locally on your device
- Map data is bundled with the app or stored locally after an optional download — it works entirely offline
- Data is protected by your device's security features and passcode/biometric authentication
iCloud Sync (Optional)
Yosemite High Country Map offers optional iCloud synchronization for your placemarks. This feature can be enabled or disabled at any time in the app's Settings.
What data is stored in iCloud:
- Your saved placemarks (locations, names, categories, and notes)
- This data is stored in your personal, private iCloud database and is not accessible to us or to other users
- GPS tracks and map data are NOT stored in iCloud — they remain local to each device
Privacy and Security:
- Your iCloud data is protected by Apple's security and encryption
- We do not have access to your iCloud data
- Only devices signed in to your Apple ID can access your synced placemarks
- For more information, see Apple's iCloud Security Overview
Your Control:
- iCloud Sync can be enabled or disabled at any time in Settings
- You can delete synced data by deleting placemarks in the app, or manage iCloud storage in iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Storage
- Deleting the app removes all local data
Third-Party Services
- Apple iCloud: Used only for optional placemark sync, within your own Apple ID. Subject to Apple's Privacy Policy
- Map data sources: The basemap is built from USGS 3DEP lidar, the USGS National Hydrography Dataset (both public domain), and OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL). No personal information is shared with these projects

Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your locally stored data at any time through the app
- Delete your data by deleting placemarks and tracks in the app, or by deleting the app from your device
- Deny location permissions (the map still works fully; the app just cannot show your position or record tracks)
- Export your GPS tracks in GPX format
Data Retention
All user data is stored locally on your device (and, if you enable placemark sync, in your personal iCloud account) and remains there until you delete it or uninstall the app. We do not retain any user data on our servers except standard download-service logs, which are retained briefly for debugging purposes.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post any changes on this page and update the "Last Updated" date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
